Choose Joy In Suffering
Philippians 1:27-30

Series Introduction: Joy is the unshakable assurance that God is in control of all the details of our lives, the confidence that ultimately, we can trust God in everything that comes into our lives, and the determined purpose to praise Him in all things.

Introduction: Is it possible to have joy in suffering? The answer is “yes” if we realize whose we are and what our life is truly about. The life of a follower of Jesus is far from easy, however it is a path to real satisfying joy.

Experiencing Joy In Suffering becomes apparent When We:
Represent Christ (Philippians 1:27a) (2 Corinthians 5:20-6:10)
Stand Fast (Philippians 1:27b)
--we will be attacked (Ephesians 6:10-20)
--we need to be anchored (Colossians 2:6-8)

“Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined],
be alert and cautious at all times.
That enemy of yours, the devil,
prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry],
seeking someone to devour.  

But resist him, be firm in your faith
[against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], 

knowing that the same experiences of suffering
are being experienced by your brothers and sisters
throughout the world. [You do not suffer alone]  

After you have suffered for a little while,
the God of all grace [who imparts His blessing and favor],
who called you to His own eternal glory in Christ
will Himself complete, confirm, strengthen, and establish you [making you what you ought to be].” (1 Peter 5:8-10)

Stand As One With Other Followers (Philippians 1:27c) (Ephesians 4:1-6)
Live Without Fear (Philippians 1:28)
Live With Privileges
--believing in Christ (Philippians 1:29a)
--suffering for Christ (Philippians 1:29b-30) (1 Peter 1:6-8)

Application: How are you doing as it relates to your journey on the path of real satisfying joy? Do you realize whom you are representing with your life?

When adversity comes are you standing fast and standing as one with other followers, God has placed in your life?  Are you living fearlessly; realizing who your faith is really in?
