Choose Joy, Peace In An Unimaginable Place
Philippians 4:2-9 

Series Introduction: Joy is the unshakable assurance that God is in control of all the details of our lives, the confidence that ultimately, we can trust God in everything that comes into our lives, and the determined purpose to praise Him in all things.

Definition of Peace: A state of mutual harmony between people or groups; a state of tranquility and contentment.

Introduction: In a spiritual context, peace is not the absence of problems, but the presence of Christ. True peace is not affected by circumstances. It is the opposite of conflict, ungratefulness, and worry. It is the purist path to joy.

Discover Peace in the Midst of Conflict
Be Same-Minded—Harmony (Philippians 4:2)
Be Helpful—Mediate (Philippians 4:3a) (Ephesians 4:15-16)
Be Reminded—Whose You Are (Philippians 4:3b)
Be Grateful—Focus (Philippians 4:4)
Be Reasonable—Agreeable (Philippians 4:5a)
Be Reminded—Who is Coming (Philippians 4:5b)

Discover Peace in the Midst of Worry
Be not Panicked (Philippians 4:6a)
Be Prayerful (Philippians 4:6b)
Be at Peace (Philippians 4:7)

Inward Focus
--“true”—be real (genuine) (Philippians 4:8a)
--“noble”—be respectful (Philippians 4:8b)
--“just”—be righteous (Philippians 4:8c) 

Outward Focus
--“pure”—be pure (undefiled) (Philippians 4:8d)
--“lovely”—be pleasing (Philippians 4:8e)
--“good report”—be positive (Philippians 4:8f) 

Motivating Focus
--“virtue”—be excellent (Philippians 4:8g)
--“praise-worthy”—be encouraging (Philippians 4:8h) 

Application: Paul closes this part of his letter with practical application and then the result if the application is followed: a careful exhortation (Philippians 4:9a), his concrete example (Philippians 4:9b), with a culminating effect (Philippians 4:9c)
