Choose Joy Following Jesus’ Example
Philippians 2:5-11

Series Introduction: Joy is the unshakable assurance that God is in control of all the details of our lives, the confidence that ultimately, we can trust God in everything that comes into our lives, and the determined purpose to praise Him in all things.

Introduction: Even though Jesus is Lord of all, He is the greatest example of a servant we can follow. And serving others as Jesus is a path to joy.

The Example of Christ
The Command (Philippians 2:5a)
The Pattern (Philippians 2:5b) (1 Peter 2:18-21)

The Equality of Christ
He is Deity as God (Philippians 2:6a)
He is Equal with God (Philippians 2:6b) (John 10:30)

The Emptying of Christ
He Became a Man (Philippians 2:7a) (John 1:1, 14)
He Served Humanity (Philippians 2:7b)
He Identified with Humanity (Philippians 2:7c-8a)
He Died on Behalf of Humanity
--the humility (Philippians 2:8b)
--the obedience (Philippians 2:8c)
--the cross (Philippians 2:8d)

The Exalting of Christ (1 Peter 5:6)
The Exalter—God (Philippians 2:9a)
The Authority—Name (Philippians 2:9b) (Acts 4:12)
The Acknowledgement—Bow & Confess (Philippians 2:10-11a)
The Purpose—God’s Glory (Philippians 2:11b)

Conclusion: The only way to have true joy is in the presence of God. Jesus and His example of humility is the only path to His presence. Therefore, there is no other Name (Jesus) that brings true joy into the life of a true follower.  (Matthew 7:21)
