JOY RIDE
Choose Joy, God Is At Work In Us
Philippians 2:12-16 

Series Introduction: Joy is the unshakable assurance that God is in control of all the details of our lives, the confidence that ultimately, we can trust God in everything that comes into our lives, and the determined purpose to praise Him in all things.

Introduction: For growth to take place in a follower of Jesus, it is dependent on both divine sovereignty and human responsibility. This growth is a process of God working in and us working out. Not us working for our salvation—that is God working in us—but us working out our salvation—obediently surrendering and following. This is the path to true joy.

The Work of Human Responsibility (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Follow—Christ (Philippians 2:12a) (1 John 2:6)
Surrender—obedience, unity (Philippians 2:12b)
Integrity—wholeness, ownership (Philippians 2:12c)
Progression—moving forward, ultimate fulfillment

Discretion—seriousness, awareness (Philippians 2:12e) (1 Peter 5:8)

The Work of Maturing

Unity not Division (Philippians 2:14)

“Complaining is an outward expression
of an inner rebellion
that shakes its fist in the face of God
questioning His wisdom and His love” 

“Disputing is an inward rebellion
where the mind weighs the truth of God
and sits in judgment of Him
condemning Him and His action”

Purity not Defilement (Philippians 2:15a)
Light not Darkness (Philippians 2:15b-16a) (Ephesians 5:8)
Joy not Regret (Philippians 2:16b-18)

Application: There is no greater joy in life than God working in you as you work out your salvation through a heart of obedience. Do you surrender to the work God desires to do in and through your life?
