SUIT UP!!
“Why We Need Spiritual Armor”
Ephesians 6:10-13; Other Selected Passages

Introduction: Someone has said, “The Christian Life is not a playground but a battleground.” To be successful in this battle for our soul we must analyze our enemy (Eph 6:10-13) and utilize our weaponry (Eph 6:14-18).

“In conclusion, be strong in the Lord
[draw your strength from Him
and be empowered through your union with Him]
and in the power of His [boundless] might.

Put on the full armor of God
[for His precepts are like the splendid armor
of a heavily-armed soldier],

so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up
against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood
[contending only with physical opponents],
but against the rulers, against the powers,
against the world forces of this [present] darkness,
against the spiritual forces of wickedness
in the heavenly (supernatural) places.

Therefore, put on the complete armor of God,
so that you will be able to [successfully] resist
and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger],
and having done everything [that the crisis demands],
to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].”                         (Ephesians 6:10-13—Amp Bible)

The Urgency for Spiritual Armor
To Stand Up to the Enemy’s Strength (Ephesians 6:10)
To Stand Up to the Enemy’s Schemes (Ephesians 6:11)
To Stand Up to the Enemy’s Soldiers (Ephesians 6:12)

“God is strong, and He wants you strong.
So take everything the Master has set out for you,
well-made weapons of the best materials.

And put them to use so you will be able to stand up
to everything the Devil throws your way.
This is no weekend war that we’ll walk away from
and forget about in a couple of hours.

This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight
to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.
Be prepared.
You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own.”
 (Ephesians 6:10-12-The Message)

The Urgency To Understand the Enemy
His Names Reveal His Character
--Satan—the adversary (most common name)
--Devil—the slanderer
--Lucifer—the shining one (Isaiah 14:12)
--Beelzebub—the ruler of demons  (Matthew 12:24)
--the god of this age (2 Corinthians 4:4)
--the dragon (Revelation 12:7)
--the deceiver (Revelation 20:10)
--the destroyer  (Revelation 9:11)
--the tempter (1 Thessalonians 3:5)
--the accuser (Revelation 12:10)

The Angel of Light (2 Corinthians 11:14-15)

A Roaring Lion (1 Peter 5:8)

His Being Reveals His Capabilities
--his intellect (Matthew 4:1-11)
--his emotions  (Revelation 12:12)
--his will (2 Timothy 2:24-26)

His Beginnings Reveals He Was Created (Ezekiel 28:11-19)

His Limitations Reveals His Condition
--he is not everywhere at once (Job 1:7)
--he is not all-knowing (Job 1:6-12)
--he is not all-powerful (Revelation 12:7)
--he is accountable (Matthew 25:41)

The Urgency To Understand the Enemy’s Cohorts

Their Beginnings (Revelation 12:3-4a, 7-9)
--one-third of the angels fell becoming demons

Three Categories of Demons:
--those free to roam now
--those who will be freed during the tribulation period
--those who will never be free to roam

Their Being
--their intellect—they knew who Jesus was (Mark 1:23-24)
--their emotions--fear & trembling (James 2:19)
--their will--they chose to follow Satan (Revelations 12)

They Have Names and Can Communicate (Luke 8:30-31)

Their Activities
--they promote disunity (James 3:14-16)
--they lie, deceive, and spread false doctrine (1 Timothy 4:1)
--they hinder spiritual growth (Ephesians 6:11)
--they hinder prayers (Daniel 10)
--they can possess non-follower of Jesus (Matthew 4:24)
--they can oppress followers of Jesus (Acts 10:38)
--they blind the minds of the unsaved (2 Corinthians 4:3-4)

Application: Do you understand the urgency, we as followers of Jesus must have, to stand against the devil and his cohorts? (Ephesians 6:13) What is at stake for you?
